Q. How do I order the prescription (Rx) version of the sunglasses?
A. Ordering the prescription (Rx) version of our electrochromic sunglasses is as easy as ordering a prescription pair of glasses from your local optometrist or optician or glasses outlet: Just bring your prescription, pick a pair of frames you like, and place your order. In our case, you pick the frames from the colors and finishes offered on our website, and you will then be prompted to upload your prescription using the link provided on our website (a phone photo of the prescription is sufficient); and you then place your order. That’s it! You’ll receive your prescription sunglasses in the mail.
Q. How are your prescription (Rx) sunglasses different from your regular sunglasses?
A. The prescription (Rx) lenses are built into our regular electrochromic sunglasses, so you will hardly notice any difference between our Rx and regular sunglasses! Our Rx lenses are also scratch resistant and have an anti-reflective coating.
Q. How are these different from photochromic lenses ?
A. FADES are not photochromic technology which means they work indoors and in cars. Compared to a photochromic, FADES have exceptional switching times (under 3 seconds), making sure you aren’t temporarily blinded when coming indoors.
Q. How are these different from LCD (liquid crystal display) electrochromics ?
A. LCD electrochromics have very rapid switching times, faster than our polymer-based electrochromics. However, LCD electrochromics have many other drawbacks preventing their successful commercialization to date: They don’t have intermediate states, just “On” (fairly transparent) and “Off” (completely dark). They also have poor durability; they start non-performing after a few thousand light/dark (L/D) cycles, as compared to our electrochromics which show no observable degradation after more than 1 million Light/Darkcycles. In addition, ours have much higher light/dark contrast than LCD electrochromics.
Q. How are they better than Polarized Lenses?
A. Electronics such as a car’s infotainment screen or your smartphone suffer from optical distortion when seen through a polarized filter on sunglasses. Because of this we designed the glasses without a polarizing lens to give you the best, all-around optical clarity.
Q. Will the lenses become less effective over time? How long do they last?
A. Our electrochromic lenses show no observable degradation over more than 1 million light/dark cycles, which means many, many years of ordinary use!
Q. Will scratching, etc. affect the lens’s efficiency?
A. These sport performance sunglasses come with a scratch-resistant polycarbonate outer layer. Just like any other scratch-resistant glasses.
Q. What about UV blocking?
A. Naturally block all UV light 100%.
Q. Can I use any USB charger with these glasses?
A. You can use ANY micro-USB charger to charge our sunglasses.
Q. Are the glasses waterproof? Can I wear them in the rain/snow?
A. The FADES® sunglasses are designed to be used outdoors in any weather so, like the post office, rain, snow or sleet won’t stop them. They are not waterproof, so don't wear them while swimming.
Q. How fast do they switch?
A. Our lenses change from light to dark in under 3 seconds and dark to light nearly instantaneously without the need for UV light.
Q. How long does the battery last?
A. The battery typically lasts 3-5 days before needing a recharge.
Q. Do you accept returns?
A. We accept undamaged products for either an exchange or credit back to the purchasing card within 30 days of purchase. Please allow 3-5 business days after your returned item is received for a refund.
Q. Do you offer a warranty?
A. We assure our customers that FADES®️ electrochromic products have exceptional quality, performance and durability, and will rarely, if ever, require service. We stand behind this and offer a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects (with valid proof-of-purchase). We strongly recommend creating an account when making a purchase for tracking and warranty purposes.
